Take a Fresh Look at Palmetto's Historic Past

Posted on July 18, 2017 at 9:53 AM by Penny Johnston

Palmetto is taking a fresh look at our historic past.  Over the past few years, local artist Cory Wright has painted scenes of various historic structures, and the City has featured her artwork on some of our reusable cloth bags available during the Manatee County Fair.

Previously, the bags have portrayed Old Main Street, with one of the buildings dating back to 1902; the Woman’s Club which was started by a group in 1900; the Green Bridge, named after Bradenton merchant E.P. Green back in 1927; and the Ag Museum which is just filled with Palmetto’s roots.

This year, the City featured Cory Wright’s rendition of Providence Missionary Baptist Church, which was established in 1921.  The church has continued to be a fundamental, orthodox Baptist church of more than 95 years.

Look for other iconic buildings within Palmetto.  Submit your suggestions to City Hall and maybe we can have an artist capture the building’s charm and history on next years’ bag.
