The City's Code Enforcement Officers, as well as City Police Officers are empowered to issue citations for numerous infractions of a number of City Codes (Laws of The City).

The penalties for violation of the City Codes range from $75 for the first offense to $500 for continued violations.  Violators are also subject to arrest, and referral to the City's Code Enforcement Board.  The Board may impose fines of up to $500 per day for repeat violations.

Following is a partial list of the codes most frequently violated:

  • Noisy Animals
  • Dangerous and Unsafe Structures
  • Abandoned, Junk Property (such as vehicles without current license plate)
  • Visibility at Intersections (keep trees and shrubs trimmed)
  • Occupational Licenses (if you engage in a business located within the City, you are required to have an occupational license)
  • Numbers Posted on House or Business (3 inches high on house/6 inches high on business)
  • Fence Requirements
  • Noise Which Disturbs Others from 50 feet away
  • Maintenance of Your Home or Business
  • Graffiti
  • Overgrown Lots/Weeds (property must be maintained)
  • Building Codes/Building Permits Required
