Public Work Department Facility Hardening

City of PALMETTO CDBG Mitigation Critical Hardening Facility Grant

The City of Palmetto is developing an Application for the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Community Development Block Grant-Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) Critical Hardening Facility Grant.  The City is seeking input from potential stakeholders and the public on the grant application. The City facility is in an area that is over 50% LMI.

The City is applying for approximately $5,156,508.00 to mitigate the risks to the protected Community Lifelines of Safety and Security, Health and Medical, Food/Water and Shelter through the critical hardening of the City’s Public Works Department. These funds must be used for the following purposes:

To address mitigation and resiliency needs in the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) identified Most Impacted and Distressed (MID) areas, and state-identified MID areas that were declared disaster areas eligible for both Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Public Assistance, categories A – G.

A public announcement of these funds and the proposed project was posted on the City’s Website and an advertisement was published in the local paper. The public is invited to provide input on the CDBG-MIT Critical Facility Hardening Program Project. A draft application has been developed based upon those comments. Activities proposed include, exterior and interior improvements to the existing City Public Works Department building including roof replacement, electrical upgrades, and permanent standby generators.

The public is invited to review the draft application posted on the web at or to view a hard copy by contacting Cheryl Miller, Finance Director at phone: 941-723-4570 ext. 109 or email: Written comments can be provided to Cheryl Miller.
