How to Purchase Surplus Property

Surplus Property is property the government does not need, is obsolete, the continued use of which is uneconomical or inefficient, or which serves no useful function. Surplus property includes assets ranging from office equipment and furniture to heavy machinery and vehicles. Property classified as surplus may be disposed of for value to any person, or may be disposed of for value, without bids, to the state, to any governmental unit, or to any political subdivision.

Property is disposed of through public auctions. You can purchase surplus city property through Public Surplus®. The site offers the general public the chance to bid electronically on the city’s assets. All registered participants can bid on a single item or multiple items (lots) within specified time frames. A link for available properties is located to the right.

The City of Palmetto does not provide any form of financing. Purchasers must remove their purchases within the time prescribed for each sale, but they cannot remove merchandise before paying. You are responsible for removing your purchase after you pay.

Viewing of Auction items is by appointment only. The City of Palmetto may require bid deposits to ensure fairness to all buyers. PayMac handles all payments for City of Palmetto. Acceptable forms of payment are: Wire Transfer or Credit Card. NO CASH, CHECKS, OR MONEY ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED! Payment for an awarded item must be received within five (5) business days after notice of award of the winning bid. City of Palmetto will charge a sales tax of 7% the tax rate will be calculated at the time of bidding.

Buyers Premium: A Buyers Premium of 10% will be added to the final sale price with a $1 minimum charge per auction for payment collections.

All sales are final. Public Surplus will notify buyer of receipt of payment via email.

The successful bidder will be responsible for removal or pick-up of item(s) from the agency's premises. Removal must occur within ten (10) business days after notification of award of the winning bid, unless otherwise noted. The notice of award, the payment receipt, and personal identification must be presented at the time of pick-up, or the City of Palmetto will not release the item to you.

Pick-up hours by appointment only. The successful bidder will be responsible for the packing, loading and/or transporting of any item(s), if necessary.
